Greene County district court, week ending Jan. 7

In Greene County district court, Randall Gerald Venteicher, 53, of Scranton was sentenced Jan. 5 to 180 days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of assault causing bodily injury, amended from domestic abuse assault- third or subsequent offense. The jail term is consecutive to a term in another Greene County case. Venteicher was fined $430 with a $47.25 surcharge; both were suspended. The court found him unable to pay restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees or court costs. (Sentencing: Honorable Joseph B. McCarville)

Ian Graves, 22, of Jefferson was sentenced to 60 days in jail with credit for time served after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of supply alcohol to person under legal age. The jail term was suspended and he was placed on informal probation to the Greene County sheriff for one year. He was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. A hearing was scheduled to determine his ability to pay related costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Jeffrey Joseph Gibbons, 54, of Madrid was granted a deferred judgment after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of operating while intoxicated. He was placed on informal probation for one year. He must comply with the recommendations of a substance abuse evaluation he has already undergone; he has also already completed a 12-hour impaired drivers education course. Gibbons must pay a $1,250 civil penalty; half has been waived because he has already obtained a temporary restricted license. Court costs were $140. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Nickquael Lenoy Rischer Oliver, 24, of Des Mines was sentenced to 10 days in jail after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of driving while license barred. The court will reconsider the sentence and suspend the jail term if he files proof of having a valid driver’s license. Oliver was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge. He must pay an amount not to exceed $900 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees and $100 court costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Casey Roland Kennedy, 22, of Grand Junction was sentenced Jan. 6 after he pleaded guilty to two counts of assault causing bodily injury, amended from two counts of domestic abuse assault causing injury or mental illness. On one count he was sentenced to one year in jail; on the other he was sentenced to 30 days in jail, with credit for time served. Both jail terms were suspended. He was fined $430 with a $64.95 surcharge on each count. Court costs were $131.50. (Sentencing: Honorable Christopher C. Polking)

Timothy Glen Pittman, 29, of Lehigh was sentenced to 15 years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense, and to 10 years in prison after he changed his plea to guilty to a charge of possession of methamphetamine with intent to deliver less than 5 grams. The prison terms were suspended and he was placed on probation to the Department of Corrections for 3-5 years. He must reside at a residential correctional facility until maximum benefits are attained. He was fined $1,000 with a $150 surcharge on the methamphetamine charge. Court costs were $176.50. Casey Roland Kennedy, 22, of Grand Junction was sentenced to two years in jail on each to two counts of criminal mischief- third degree. Both jail terms were suspended and he was placed on probation to the Department of Corrections for two years. He must participate in the Veterans Administration dual diagnosis program until he is successfully discharged. He was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge on each count. A hearing will be  held to determine his ability to pay costs. (Sentencing: Polking)

Jesse Whatley, 27, of Brazoria, TX, was sentenced to one yar in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of OWI- first offense. All but two days of the jail term was suspended and he was placed on informal probation to the Greene County sheriff for one year. He may complete the Des Moines Area Community College 48-hour alcohol education program in lieu of the jail time. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense, and he must complete a community college drinking drivers school. Whatley was fined $1,250 with a $187.50 surcharge; one-half will be waived if he obtains a temporary restricted license. Court costs were $100. A charge against Whatley in magistrate court of public intoxication was dismissed. Court costs in that case were $60. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Robert Michael Guzman Jr, 26, of Carter Lake was sentenced to 14 days in jail with credit for time served after he pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana- second offense, amended from possession of marijuana- third or subsequent offense. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. He was fined $855 with a $128.25 surcharge; A hearing will be held to determine his ability to pay costs. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Scot Michael Picknell, 23, of Churdan was sentenced to two days in jail after he pleaded guilty to a charge of possession of marijuana. The jail term was suspended and he was placed on probation to Boone/Greene County Probation for one year. He must undergo a substance abuse evaluation and complete any recommended treatment at his own expense. Picknell was fined $430 with a $64.50 surcharge. He must pay an amount not to exceed $600 restitution for his court appointed attorney’s fees. Court costs were $144.66. (Sentencing: McCarville)

Persons pleaded not guilty at arraignments as follows: Tammy Ann Tolsdorf, 55, of Grand Junction, possession of marijuana- second offense and possession of methamphetamine- third or subsequent offense; Danyell Marie Freeman, 45, of Fort Dodge, driving wile license barred; Marlene Eleanor Anderson, 52, of Jefferson, driving while license barred; and Carolos Carmelo Sierra Rojas, 25, of Des Moines, assault on person in certain occupation. Trial dates were set for March 1 in every case.

Cases were initiated in district court during the week ending Jan. 7 as follows: Mark Henry Morrow, 61, of Carson, driving while license barred; Tanisha Renee Gully, 38, of Fort Dodge, driving while license revoked; and Brandon Lee Ferguson, 23, of Jefferson, possession of methamphetamine, driving while license barred, and identity theft more than $1,500 but less than $10,000.
